But even his 1966 Freak Out Stage, Zappa had plenty of contempt of the rock and roll back then. The Zappa Vs Mothers of Prevention, his 1986 flop was supposed to his response to the PMRC mess of Tipper Gore but most of that album he's doodling on his synclavier He could play guitar with the best of them though. I've got some of his early supposedly-top-class material here, and I just don't think his social-critique/personal-hygiene obsessions are quite deep enough or funny enough to build a career on. And his pop-song satires are weak.
But "Trouble Every Day" was a surprise. It was at least 20 years ahead of its time. What would FZ say if he was around for THIS election? He'd SHIT!
TADhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13853931230081777310noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4269925294673930988.post-65009641923142771992016-08-08T17:44:31.125-07:002016-08-08T17:44:31.125-07:00Hello Tad,

I'm back into double digit views rather than the triple digits of the past two weeks. So Be it.

The problem with jazz, is that I tend to fall in and out of favor with it. I do like Love Supreme as well as Ornotte Coleman's stuff, but if I'm not in the mood it's not going to be something I'll be listening to. I did find Vince Garadi's Oh Good Grief, which updates the Peanuts songs he originally did but it tends to be lack luster. The electric piano cheapens the songs.

For Zappa, he's a love/hate guy. Certainly Freak Out is a classic album up to Return Of The Monster Magnet which takes up side 4 and tends to be avantgarde bullcookies, I don't mind the freakout of Help I'm A Cop/It Can't Happen Here but even back then Zappa's smutty humor gets to be a putoff rather than turn on. But Trouble Coming Every Day is a genuine hard rock classic, (even metal if you think about it).

R S Crabbhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11763473179086750283noreply@blogger.com
